Pause

I paused today to be Thankful.
I am Thankful for this day.
I am Thankful for life.
I am Thankful to breath.
I am Thankful for the ability to live and breathe another day.

Life is worth living.
Life gets better.

Pause, live and breathe another day.

Survivor’s Story – The Sum of What I Have Learned

By Anonymous

Do you remember as a child when you were told exercise is good for you? You exercise to regain yourself, to feel prettier, feel healthy. Sometimes it doesn’t work that way. There are people waiting lurking in the shadows. The shadow people have no heart, no sense of right and wrong. They only think of themselves and have no remorse for the pain they inflict on others.

To survive the showdown you must fight for your life. Shadow people will do more than rape you. You must fight for your life, because it depends on it. Fight like it is the last night you will breath or be on this earth. Fight!!!

Shadow people know their prey. Be prepared for what follows. Change your locks and phone number. My shadow person had a key. I only found out after he broke in and ransacked my safe place. He would call my phone, to the point that my phone would scare me when it rang. I changed my locks, phone number and added a deadbolt.

Trust your instinct. To survive you must know your surroundings. If something doesn’t feel right trust yourself. It is ok to trust your instincts.

Change things up. Don’t always jog in the same place or same time. Don’t go to the gym or leave work like a time clock. Being unpredictable is safe. No one should be able to map out your day or night.

All of these things saved me from my shadow person. I trusted my instincts. If you think you are being followed or stalked believe in yourself? You are not crazy. You are being safe.

Fight for your life. You may be punched, broken and bruised but you will be alive for another day. I was badly punched, broken and bruised but I am alive. Alive for another day, another month, another year.

Fight like it is the last night you will breath or be on this earth. Fight for your life. Fight!!!

Violet Richardson Award by Soroptimist of Fort Collins

On Tuesday February 18th Josephine Natrasevschi a senior at Fort Collins High School was honored with the Violet Richardson Award by Soroptimist of Fort Collins. The Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award recognizes and honors young women between the ages of 14 and 17 who make the community and world a better place through volunteer efforts this year Josephine Natrasevschi from Fort Collins High School was honored for her project, Protect Yourself.

I am a Girl Scout and have learned the importance of service. I have been an active participant in community service ranging from decorating bags for Meals on Wheels as a kindergartner to my Gold Award Project, Protect Yourself. In 5th grade my troop decided to adopt a nursing home. This was our first major project and we were excited as could be. Our mission was to go regularly and read to, sing to, bring art and visit with the residents of Columbine Nursing Home. They loved to hear about our lives and our adventures (or at least they humored our young and self-centered minds). I earned my Girl Scout Bronze Award through my service with the Columbine Nursing Home. I also learned the importance of SENIORS and how to treasure their stories. This is one of the reasons I am studying to be a certified nurse aid this year in addition to my studies.

At Lesher Middle School, I worked on a service project for the homeless with Northern Colorado Catholic charities “The Mission” to earn my Girl Scout Silver Award. My service included collecting laundry soap, toiletries, crafts, school supplies, wrapping presents for Christmas and cleaning and organizing the mission. What I remember the most was helping teach crafts. I met kids much younger than me and those of my age without a home. They would catch the school bus daily at the shelter for school. I never knew this side of homelessness before and it made me very thankful for what I had previously taken for granted.

While attending Fort Collins High School; I have worked with National Honor Society, Math Honor Society and Science Honor Society to aid the community. Still my most substantial and meaningful project has been with Girl Scouts. I researched, trained, blogged, developed, and taught a class to aid in Sexual Assault and Rape Prevention. I have taught this class in Fort Collins and Gunnison CO, Boston MA, and Providence, RI. I have influenced people in China, India, Australia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and England with my program. Some people have learned hands on from me. Others learn from the instructors I have taught but many have found the information in my blog https://protecty0urself.wordpress.com/ (interestingly enough this blog has formed a sort of community, one of trust and support). I have dedicated over 400 hours to this project and effected over 4500 people thus far.

I have been asked why I chose this project. Rape and Sexual Assault is something that touches all of us. 1 OUT OF 4 women are raped on a college campus and unfortunately I have witnessed the direct result of this statistic through family and friends. A couple of weeks ago President Obama signed legislation to study and help solve this problem. Last week college administrators from all over the nation met at the University of Virginia’s campus for the first ever conference on sexual assault on college campuses. This is an important step. By sharing with each other and compiling a list of information regarding what works and what doesn’t a solution may be found?

I plan to continue my service to the community while in college. I hope to attend Brown University and would like to help establish a Sexual Assault program there. My goal is to provide education and prevention, rape kits on campus, advocates for victims, and therapy for victims. I also believe Student athletes can be used to help educate and prevent rape. I would like to establish this program at Brown and eventually share it with other Ivy League schools to test on their campuses.

Spread the Love

Look around you and pause.
Hug that friend or loved one.
Tell them they are LOVED.

Hold their hand.
Comfort them.
Be there for them.

I cry for you.
I feel your pain.
I feel your sorrow.
I feel your grief.

Know I am here.
Know you are Loved.
Know I understand.
Know I am here for you.

Look around you and pause.
Hug that friend or loved one.
Tell them they are LOVED.

Pause for a moment of silence.

Spread the Love.
Today and every day.

Ending rape on campus: Activism takes several forms By Emanuella Grinberg, CNN

This link is about campus rape. It is a widespread problem. My hope is that Universities start addressing the issue. It is time to explore solutions for the problem. It is time to stop blaming the victim and stop sweeping it under the rug. Rape and sexual assault does exist on college campuses. Lets work on a solution and get the problem solved.

A Moment In Time

Today I was feeling a little sorry for myself.
I had a lot happen this week.
Deaths seem to come and go a lot.
Sadness and sickness in my family comes and goes a lot.
My life is still undecided up in the air.
It is hard not knowing.
It is hard waiting.
It is hard.

Tonight by chance I ended up taking a break.
Tonight I tried to do what seventeen year olds do.
I saw a movie.
It seems innocent enough.
I took my mother and we saw a movie together.
It was supposed to be fun.
It wasn’t until we walked in that I realized where we were.
How could I be so absent minded to pick this theatre?
How could this place still exist?
Why didn’t Aurora tear it down?

I paused as we walked past the police in the movie theatre.
I paused as my mother made us sit close to an exit.
I paused when my mother instructed me to run for the exit if needed.
I paused and thought about those who sat before me in this theatre.

Now I would like to ask all of you to pause.
Take a moment and think of what you are thankful for.
I am thankful I am alive tonight.
I am thankful for all that God has given me.

My life has its ups and downs.
It has its death and sorrows.
It has life.

I realize life is worth living.
I realize life is worth fighting for.
I realize how lucky I am.

My hope is that you pause and realize too.
Life is worth living.
Live is worth fighting for.
Yes life has its ups and downs but that is what makes it special.
Live your life, every moment to the fullest.

This is my prayer for you my friends.
Live your lives.
Be happy.

I Thank God for you.
I Thank God for me.
I pray you heal.
I pray I heal.
I pray for the sun to shine and break through the darkness.
I pray that tomorrow will be the best day for you.

Sleep well my friends God is with thee.

For My Sister

Sleep sister I feel your pain.
Sleep sister know I am here for you.
Sleep sister you are loved.
Sleep sister you need to heal.
Sleep sister I’ll see you soon.
